Board games- The perfect Christmas gift

Technology may change the way we live, read, listen to music, talk and shop, but some things were such a good idea that their basic premise never changes. Board games are the perfect gift for Christmas, as they have longevity that many other gifts don’t really possess. You can play board games again and again, invite friends and family to take part, and they can become a very social pastime indeed.

The classics are here again this year, with new editions of Monopoly, Scrabble, Cluedo, Twister and more being released onto the market. Those older favourites have also been joined by some great new titles such as the fascinating Articulate, Blokus, and Cranium. Each of them will provide hours of entertainment, and even education, as you pit your wits and reflexes against your opponents.

Using games as a focal point at social events is a great way to get people into the swing of things, and ca be a great icebreaker for those winter nights with family and other loved ones.

There’s something for everyone in the realm of board games for Christmas 2008, with games based around images, numbers, words, and general knowledge on the market for every taste and pocket. The big one this year is undoubtedly the new version of Monopoly- namely Monopoly World Edition: Here and Now. The makers of Monopoly, Hasbro, held a global vote so that people could cast their ballots for the cities they wanted to see in the new version of the game. Nearly six million votes were cast and Montreal won the title of the game’s most expensive property, which was originally held by Boardwalk in the traditional Monopoly game. Riga, in Latvia, was second and becomes the next most expensive property, known in previous Monopoly games as Park Place.

That’s just one example of the great games that can be found for Christmas 2008 gifts. There is a huge range out there, and certainly you will be able to find the right gift at the right price. We all know how hard it can be to decide on w3hat to get for family and friends at this time of year, so do consider board games- the gift that really does keep on giving. Have fun with your games, and have a very merry Christmas.
