Child Abuse And Neglect Leads To Serious Dangers

physical abuse

"I remember the feeling I experienced when I saw him put his fist to her face and watched the blood pour out of her nose and lips - my beautiful sister," recalls one victim of child abuse and neglect. "How would she live with such fear and unhappiness? How would she face school, friends, life? I knew the meaninglessness of life - I wanted to die in the act of torturing and killing him. I split in two and lost myself entirely. The next thing I remember was staring up at an enormous booted leg which led from my neck to his head and the ceiling beyond. I heard him say, 'You will NOT call that number. They will carry you out in a body bag."

There are several types of abuse and neglect perpetrated against children. Physical neglect involves the refusal of health care to treat a physical injury, medical condition or impairment, or a delay in health care. It also involves abandonment, which is the desertion of a child without supervision. Kicking a child out of the house, allowing the child to leave overnight without knowing his or her whereabouts and showing reckless disregard for the child's safety, such as driving while drunk, are all causes of physical neglect. Providing inadequate clothing, food and shelter are common causes as well. With physical abuse, the child is intentionally slapped, kicked, punched, burned or injured in an attempt to control them.

Emotional child abuse and neglect can be one of the most damaging forms because it lurks subtly in the back of the child's mind always and undermines his or her very confidence and lust for life. The Department of Health and Human Services defines emotional abuse as "inadequate nurturing, affection or attention, chronic or extreme spouse abuse, permitted drug or alcohol abuse, permitted delinquency or assault and refusal or delay in psychological care." Children will carry these scars into adulthood and have problems with their self esteem, relationships, perceptions, motivations and learning abilities. Often, emotional violence leads to physical abuse as well and many abused children are doomed to repeat the cycle of violence passed down by their parents if abuse treatment is not sought.

Many people incorrectly believe that, by law, victims of child abuse and neglect must be removed from their homes immediately. In reality, the most likely outcome is that counselors will intervene and try to rehabilitate the family, at the very least keeping the non-abusive parent and child together. Another misconception is that child abuse cannot be reported anonymously, although most states don't require you to provide your name and the person reported for abuse will never find out your name regardless. If you fear someone you know has been a victim of domestic crimes, then call 1-800-4-A-CHILD right away and save a life.

Helpful Guidelines For Dealing With Pests At Home

The practice of pest control and gardening has been around for longer than you might think: at least as long as common agriculture. It's an industry that's growing rapidly. In the last 5 years, the pest control industry has seen an increase of about 50%.  It is now considered to be a $7 billion industry nationwide.

With increasing frequency, remote areas are being chosen for the construction of new housing. The desert and the woods are attractive and appealing locations for some people I think that few consider the fact that when you're constructing in certain areas, you are destroying the homes of insects and animals. They only become pests because they come into YOUR home.

What is Home Pest Control?

It's basically the reduction or eradication of pests. There is a difference between pest control and structural pest control in that the one is control of creatures affecting plants, soil or lawn etc and the other is control of creatures such as termites which invade buildings or outhouses. That can sometimes spill over into the house as well, but by and large, it's the garden we're talking about here.

It is important to keep up with your gardening, and take preventative pest control measures to protect not only your gardens, but your health as well. The problem is often overlooked until pests get out of control and the damage is severe. Well there are measures you can take to help eradicate the problem.

What can we do to contain the unwanted pests in our garden?

Many people see home pest control as a do-it-yourself job. To some extent, say upto a point that is fair enough. Gardening pest control is like visiting the doctor: to prescribe effective treatment your physician must correctly diagnose the problem and determine the extent of the injury as well as the potential for further injury. Through surveys, it has been discovered that homeowners often don't read the instructions carefully or they alter them in ways they think will better solve their problem.

The well being of both your family and any visitors into your home  could be affected by this over concentration of insecticide. Today, speaking of chemicals refers to chemical pest control for pest problem. However, since chemicals can have long range effects, interest was redirected toward traditional and biological pest control toward the end of the 20th century.

It is possible to be visited on a monthly basis by a representative from your local pest control company if you would prefer not to deal with pests yourself. One advantage to monthly pest control is that someone should be looking at your house and garden for pest problems regularly. One disadvantage of monthly pest control is that homeowners insist that PCOs apply a chemical treatment monthly whether there is a pest problem or not!

The usage of Home and Garden pesticides are very surprising:

1. Each year 67 million pounds of pesticides are applied to lawns

2. Agricultural acreage consumes far less pesticide than suburban lawns do.

Before you spray any pesticides, think carefully about what you are about to do. In fact, you may be getting rid of the bugs that are beneficial to keeping your pest problem under control. If the pests should return, you may have to spray additional times in the future. Insects can also help your garden grow because they pollinate your plants, helping your garden to expand. Don't use persistent, broad-spectrum, contact insecticides like diazinon, malathion and carbaryl. Avoid these as you are more than likely to end up doing more harm than good with them. When the insects who prey on the pests are decimated, you will notice the quick revival of the pests and, lo, these plant eaters multiply faster soon after you had used the spray.

Most consumers also don't realize how potentially harmful they can be:

1. Homes have at least 23 kinds of pesticide tracings in the dust that have been tracked in from outside.Consumers don't realize the dangers.

2 Garden chemicals are harmful to our environment and the US Geological Survey routinely discovers evidence of them, especially weed killers, in the waterways around urban centers.

It is peculiar to think that most people consider that chemical methods of pest control are mandatory.

Gardening and Natural Home Pest Control

The secret to gardening and pest control is to get the perfect balance of organisms in your yard. Using chemical pesticides is more costly and potentially harmful, while natural pest control offers safety for your garden and the local floral and fauna.

There are several methods that can be used to help eradicate gardening pests:

1. Things you could try include traps, barries and row covers.

2. Strive to attract good bugs with a variety of plants that produce pollen and nectar throughout the year.

3. If the pests can't get to your plants, you can eliminaate the damage they cause. To keep pests under your direct control, physically remove them in the case of you seeing only a few pests.

In conclusion, many people face this same problem. Hundreds upon hundreds of people around the globe that are also searching for solutions to home pest control, so we hope that this has been useful to you.

What Are The Best Baby Blankets?

the blanket

Tucked away deep in a chest somewhere, it's entirely possible that you still have your baby blankets. They may be gray and tattered now, but there was some bizarre attachment, and now a slew of sentimentality, affixed to this item. Babies may not be able to express every emotion or understand everything that's going on, but they do know that certain fabrics make them feel more comfortable and at ease. Whether you're looking for a swaddling blanket to assist with feeding time, a play mat, a changing table blanket, a security blanket or a bedtime wrap, you'll find the perfect one for your baby.

When shopping for a baby blanket, look carefully at the packaging to see the size and dimensions. Nothing is more disappointing than getting a nighttime baby coverlet home, only to find that it barely covers the infant. "Well it looks like I have another dust rag," you may think. Often, when you purchase cheap three-packs, you'll find these are small and of poor-quality. However, these bargain bin blankets for newborns do come in handy for mopping up vomit, as burping cloths, change table blankets or sick baby mattress pads. Keeping a few of these handy will be extremely helpful for those little, messy emergencies.

There are many benefits to purchasing swaddling baby blankets. One benefit is that they allow for quick diaper checking and easy diaper changing. Babies can remain wrapped up and sleepy with their arms tucked inside the baby blanket, even while you're busy at work. Time and time again, mothers report that their babies slept much better with swaddling blankets, with some going from 2-3 consecutive hours of sleep to six hours or more overnight! The SwaddleMe Adjustable Infant Fleece Wrap infant blankets have received rave reviews and numerous testimonials that are hard to ignore. If you find one you and your baby love, then you may want to buy two in the event the original blanket gets lost or damaged.

Do you ever wonder, "What kind of baby blankets do the stars swaddle their little ones in?" Well, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes just recently purchased the Little Giraffe brand chenille baby blanket for $78 to give to Nicole Kidman as a gift. This super snuggly blanket gets rave reviews from mothers who say "This is my daughter's favorite," "With a little stain remover I can get out everything from spit-up to poop," and "It's pricey but it will be the blanket that is saved forever, not thrown out year to year."

What Ghost Stories Are Perfect For Halloween Horror?

ghost story

Holidays are an ideal time to get your child interested in reading. Since ghost stories in particular are so fascinating to children, you'll find that even your reluctant book-hating teen will pick up the right text if you place it on the nightstand. Who doesn't love the suspense of Edgar Allan Poe, the character descriptions of Stephen King and the eeriness of Bram Stoker or Mary Shelley? Here are some suggestions for getting into the spirit of Halloween through reading.

If you have little ones, then you'll want to get them in the mood for Halloween fun, yet you don't want to scare them silly with stories about ghosts. Theatrical storyteller Mary Jo Maichack plays guitar and fiddle on her audio CD, while combining folklore and "howlarious" Halloween jokes. She'll offer kids a variety of voices, from a Hungarian ghost to a goofy vampire to comprise a funny version of Halloween. The "Ghosthunters series," by Cornelia Funke, combines humor, illustrations and gross stuff for seven-to-nine-year-olds to enjoy.

"Fungus the Bogeyman," by Raymond Briggs, is a good picture book stuffed with puns and illustrations that'll have your little ones roaring with laughter as they follow a monster through his daily routine. "It's Halloween!," by Jack Prelutsky, includes thirteen separate poems about Halloween and isn't really a ghost story, but will certainly gets the kids in the mood. There is also a great collection of audio books and stories at www.surfnetkids.com/audiobooks/short_stories/ that may be suitable for your children.

For teen and adult reading, S.E. Schlosser's "The Spooky Series," as featured on www.americanfolklore.net, is a collection of books detailing ghost stories specific to a particular state. You can read about Bloody Mary who is in the Pennsylvania series, learn about the Headless Horseman and the Lincoln Death Train in the New York edition, read about a Bigfoot sighting in California or an eight-foot skeleton wandering the Arizona desert. To get a feel for these creepy, ghostly stories, you can read excerpts on the website and even listen to spooky podcasts. There's just something so terrifying about the local ghost story. The Spooky Campfire Stories give you podcasts for wee little ones who just want some Halloween fun, podcasts for kids who aren't so easily scared and serious Halloween horror that may even raise the hairs on the necks of adults.

Another way to experience ghost stories is by listening to audiobooks, which, in some ways, can create a more haunting experience. At www.talking-book-store.com, you can get 20 of Edgar Allan Poe's stories read by Vincent Price for $16.95 or "The Complete Stories of M.R. James," for 3 hours and 40 minutes of narration by David Collings. At www.audible.com, which is one of the biggest libraries of downloadable audiobooks, you will find Halloween horror classic collections with Ambrose Bierce, HG Wells, Charles Dickens, Clara Riddell, Rudyard Kipling, Daniel Defoe and more. Visit www.simplyudiobooks.com for a great collection that includes Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein," "The Monkey's Paw," "The Ghost Ship," "The Strange Case of Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde," Edgar Allan Poe's "Bernice," Braham Stoker's "Dracula," "The Spectral Ship" and "The Flying Dutchman." As well, at www.vintagehorror.com and www.themonsterclub.com, you will find offerings of old time radio shows of Halloween horror as well.

Decorative cushions add the perfect touch to your home

Choosing decorative cushions that don't overwhelm your kitchen set is not easy when hard wooden kitchen and dining room chairs beg to be softened. You can pick up a set of chair cushions for $5 at the local dollar store - but will they fit into your room's decor - or detract from your style? The shoddy workmanship, less durable fabric and thinner padding make a cheap chair stand out.

You will be rewarded with a set that lasts longer and is far more comfortable if you take the trouble to choose well-made, quality chair cushions. These things must be considered when you are selecting the chair cushions for your wooden chairs. Pick the right size for the seat - if the cushion is too small, it will be uncomfortable. If it's too large, it will look bulky - and the edges of the chair seat will add to the wear on the fabric and cut the life of your cushions.

Check closely to be sure that any ties are sewn securely into the seam of the cushion. Chair ties must be strong enough to withstand pulling and tugging when people sit and stand. If the ties are sewn into the seam, they're far more likely to stay attached.

Your purchase of seat cushions will actually help to keep your room tidy as stain guard treatment will rest stains. Invest in a can of stain resist or stain guard if you find the perfect curtains that are not stain resistant. This makes it easier to keep them looking fresh and new. Your kids eat here in the kitchen, I am assuming. Select seat cushions that may be washed or that come with removable and washable covers. Despite having stain guard protection, occasional spills will be absorbed. The convenience of being able to throw your chair cushions in the laundry will simplify your life. Be sure to pick cushions in a durable fabric, that is able to stand up to the wear of lots of seating.

For fabric that wears like an iron, corduroy, denim, chintz, canvas and duck would be a good choice. Rolled edges, piping and ruffles should all be firmly sewn into the seam between the top and bottom of the cushion. Check carefully for any seam and the gap between the rest and give some of the ruffle tug of the pipeline to ensure that it will not easily free of charge. Cushions that are tufted look attractive, however, they aren't that comfortable for sitting on for a long time. In choosing tufted cushions, be sure that any buttons are sewn through all of the layers of the chair cushion to avoid wriggling bottoms pulling them loose.

William Ernest Woods - The humble tea towel

When William Ernest Woods opened his shop in 1895 his aim was to build a reputation for selling only the finest quality household linens available. Only the very highest quality of items, ranging from sheets and bed covers to dusters and floor coverings, were fine enough to grace the shelves of his store in Harrogate. When unable to find an item that lived up to his standards, he would have one made. Even the humble tea towel had to be worthy of his label. After many attempts at kitchen tea towels, for that he was not satisfied with the quality and performance, he went to Ireland to find a flax industry to give dishcloth to his own specifications It is highly absorbent, durable and long-term to maintain its whiteness. When he was satisfied that all of his requirements had been met, he put in his initial order, ushering in the birth of the renowned dishcloth. In short order, customers realized just what fine quality their linen dishcloth was, and it quickly became a must have item in many homes all over Yorkshire. This year marks its 100th anniversary, and nowadays thousands of them are sold to repeat customers both nationally and internationally. They are shipped worldwide to clients who report they can't find anything comparable to this dishcloth's quality. They have a dishcloth that is much more absorbent than cotten, it makes it easier to clean spills and keep counters dry and smusge free. It can be washed at a high temperature if required and will last for several months, maintaining its original whiteness throughout. Thousands of satisfied customers throughout the world have used their linen dishcloths for generations. So if you have never tried one, in its centenary year, why not discover the secrets of the best dishcloth in the world. White cotton lace and a branded ribbon loop are made from 100% cotton and are vintage tea towels that are machine washable. You will never want to use anything else, and you won't be disappointed!

Saving Money Through Kit Homes

Easy installation is one factor that appears in all kit homes. At the end you get a stable result. To add even more good points, your budget will not be badly affected. You need to realize that kit homes are more than capable to save you money. The truth is that building your home is possible while also paying less with kit homes.

{Looking for|Find great|Get your next|Check out our} {kit home|kit homes australia|home kits|kit homes queensland|steel kit homes|Kit Homes|kit homes sydney|kit homes perth|kit homes melbourne|buy a kit home} {for your next kit home|and contact us for details.|when thinking about your next kit home}

Any traditional house is expensive. Any house that has a slab foundation will fall into this category. We see a lot of families around Australia that settle for a lot less when thinking about their dream home as money is a real problem. We are faced with the price of labor and materials constantly rising. Owners have to settle for less and in most cases we are talking about one house that has less rooms than previously planned. Many people can not build their own homes so the end results is paying rent. In such situations a kit home is a great solution.

There are financial benefits when thinking about kit homes. Just think about the fact that most of the construction is ready when you step into the picture. Spending money is thus a reality, especially on materials and needed labor force. You can even end up building everything yourself. All kit homes are easy to build and this is exactly their main advantage. The quick fittings used are easy to put together and the entire process is much easier than building a regular foundation home. With a regular foundation based house you will pay more because many costs are not included in your first plan. All such homes are more expensive than you thought at the beginning. All kit homes will bring in the advantage of a lack of extras that you always forget about. You will get everything except your wanted elements. This includes paint, appliances and connections.

Another advantage stands in location. It does not really matter where you want to build your house because it can be done. This is especially a reality if you want to live in a remote area. Such places are a lot more costly when thinking about building homes. For kit homes location is not a problem as transportation is possible anywhere you want.

Considering kit homes is a good financial solution. If you can not afford that foundation based home, considering a kit home is a great alternative.

Picking Out the Right Metal Detector

Metal detecting can be separated into two main areas: - gold prospecting and coin, jewelery & relic hunting, with a branch of this being underwater detecting.  Also, there are a couple of models that are purposely planned to be very versatile and can be utilized for either purpose.  In order to get the most dependable detector for anyone's demands, an individual needs to  see which area is most attracting.  In any event, after much research and deliberation, an individual will be able to buy a highly specialized detector, encompassing the necessary features within the overall design.

Even though gold prospecting detectors tend to have excellent ground balancing abilities and are often firmer in depth and sensitivity than the coin hunting models, gold prospecting detectors generally lack discrimination. Coin and treasure hunting detectors possess innovative and accurate discrimination and target identification abilities, but may not perform well in heavily mineralized ground. Consequently, there is a trade off in functioning and characteristics and the detector should have the abilities that may be functional for the intended area.

When researching different metal detector models for purchase there are four important characteristics that can be utilized to categorize how one detector equates with another: Depth; Sensitivity; Discrimination and Ground Balance.  Other factors that should be weighed are the size and types of coils available, types of batteries and hours of usage, and the most essential factor, the cost of the detector.

In regards to depth, it is the distance that a metal detector can penetrate and detect metal objects in the ground. Frequently, some detectors produce extraordinary distances when demonstrated in the air but are very unsatisfactory when the target is sunk in the ground.

The depth attained can be determined by elements such as the frequency of the detector's electro-magnetic field, sophistication of the circuitry, how well it will manage with mineralized soils, stablility and low-noise during detector operation, the size of the target, etc.  In addition, depth is often impacted by the frequency of the detector. Low frequencies will tend to provide better depths and high frequencies will normally improve sensitivity, but at less depth.

Sensitivity is important if gold prospecting is the preferable central point.  Since the frequency of the detector influences the sensitivity of the detector, this feature is highly essential for consideration.

The discrimination function defines the type of metal that has been detected before uncovering. Treasure hunters love this essential feature because it is a remarkable time saver.  In fact, notch discrimination enables the operator to cancel out unwanted metals while letting in desirable items. Most discrimination systems function by testing the conductivity level of the mark and produces an estimate of the identity of the target. Moreover, notch discrimination segments the full conduction range of metals, allowing the operator to accept just those segments that are desirable.  The more notches obtainable, the more precise the discrimination will be on the detector.

Discrimination is not advisable when searching for native gold nuggets, as impurities in gold, as well as concentrated minerals in the soil around the nugget may confuse the discriminator, resulting in a false reading. For this reason, most metal detectors designed for gold prospecting have limited discrimination ability.

For the most part, ground balance is perhaps the most important function on the metal detector for gold prospecting, however, this is one of the most neglected characteristic when comparing metal detector capabilities. The ground balancing setting compensates for the effects of minerals in the ground.  In Principle, this allows the detector to scan the ground and simply provides a signal when it passes over a target. If the ground balancing is not correctly prepared, the detector will make false noises from the ground, which makes it really tough to tell the difference between ground noise and a metal targets.

All metal detectors come with some variety of ground balance, many can be manually changed, some are factory pre-set and others are a true mechanical tracking where the detector is testing the ground effect continuously and alters the ground balance setting to suit. Metal detectors with true automatic tracking excel in highly mineralized soil arenas, as their ability to compensate every couple of seconds makes them so much easier to utilize and to a greater extent efficient.

In conclusion, consider the particular function for the metal detector such as gold prospecting, hunting coins in parks or searching for lost jewelry on the beach, then look at what every machine has to offer to suit that purpose and the features that will be essential.

Tips For Learning Sign Language

Sign language is a language which uses body language and manual communication instead of sound to convey meaning, it is commonly used by people who are deaf or hard at hearing. There are various ways to learn the language and why you want to learn it will determine the best way for you, for instance a person who wants to learn it so they can improve communication with a deaf family member will not need to learn as much as someone who wants to become a sign language interpreter.

There are many people that are interested in learning sign language. They want to do this not only to be able to communicate with the deaf community, but also to be able to use it in their business practices. If you are able to talk with the deaf using sign language then you will be able to offer them your services and help them as necessary. Although this seems like it is a shallow goal, many of those in the deaf community would welcome someone taking the initiative to learn sign language for this reason. If you have a large population of deaf people in your area, and most areas do, then this is typically a market that is totally untapped.

Spoken language has some distinct differences from sign language. In spoken language, different sounds created by words and tones of voice are the most important devices used for the communicate process. With sign language, sight is the most useful tool a deaf person has to communicate and receive information.

There are many reasons for which one may be interested in learning sign language is if they have a friend or a part of the family that is deaf, and you want to communicate better with them. Another reason for which you may be interested is to later teach it to a friend in need of such a technique, or you might want to become an interpreter for those who need one. There are several atips on how you can learn sign language, and these are mentioned below:

Start by learning the alphabets, the main reason is that alphabets are the foundation of most languages and just like in spoken languages if you are going to learn this language you should start with the alphabets. As long as you know the English alphabet or the alphabet of the language you speak you would find learning the sign language alphabet easy

Next you would want to learn how to finger spell, here what you do is that instead of spelling words in full you do it letter by letter. You will need to practice a lot if you are going to be able to arrange letters in different orders. Once you master the alphabets and how to arrange letters you would need to learn words and how to form sentences, there are a lot of online dictionaries that provide instructions on how to form most signed words in detail

Sign Language is not a word for word language. It is often necessary to convey a thought in as small amount of signs as possible. This is especially important when you are translating and need to keep up with someone that may be speaking very fast. So while it is not totally simple to learn sign language, is much easier than taking up a foreign language. It will also help you to serve a need that you may find in your community.

Learning sign language can be very beneficial whether you need it for your life or not. It will enhance your ability to communicate and open you up to a new world you once were shut out from.

Advantages Of Baby Sign Language

American sign language Aphabets

Baby signing is all about communicating with young babies before they develop speech, using sign language similar to that used by people with hearing difficulties. Children develop communication skills long before they can speak, and visual communication allows them to start telling parents what they need, or want.Baby sign language is rapidly becoming popular as a means of recognizing -- and responding to -- a young baby's needs.

Learning how to communicate with your baby before he is able to speak is a benefit for everyone in the home. These are skills that will not only stay with and help your baby, but your other children in the home will greatly benefit as well.

Here are few tips to learn sign language.

Some parents fear that using baby sign language may hamper their child's speech development later on. Research into this subject, however, shows that children taught baby sign in infancy go on to develop superb language skills. In some cases, they may learn to speak earlier and often have an increased ability to learn a second language.

There are many benefits of learning sign languages

Much of the research has shown that using baby sign language makes for an easier life for parents and babies, because the infant doesn't get so frustrated when trying to get what they need, by using a sign they can ask for food, hugs, or let someone know when they have a soiled nappy without resorting to crying.| Studies have shown so many benefits to babies who use sign language. They learn to speak earlier, have less frustrations (a benefit for both baby and you) less frustration = less crying, increased vocabulary, a greater interest in books, greater self-esteem, higher IQ points and my personal favorite a closer bond with family members (which I have enjoyed first hand).

Sign language will help in the development of your child's vocabulary and can be a huge benefit to them in the future allowing them to communicate with both hearing and non hearing individuals.

Know more about sign language, click here Learn Sign Language

Babies who sign are able to interact and be acknowledged at a younger age. Picture you and your baby looking at a book about elephants. She can show you that she understands the story by signing "elephant" to you well before she could say the three syllables word "elephant". You know that your baby understands and is benefiting from the story and you can respond "yes, it is a big elephant", thereby rewarding her for her efforts.

You need to get to the stage where your baby begins to connect a basic gesture with an action, activity or object. If you do this consistently, you will find that over time your baby starts to mimic these gestures. You can also accompany the gesture with the word so that, eventually, your baby will graduate to using the spoken form.

Babies learn easy by imitating what they see everyone do, therefore if you are consistent and basic with using some basic gestures for certain activities and objects, you'll be notice how quickly your baby picks them up. The most important thing is to keep it fun and busy. Each turn the activity of learning sign language into a game and you will see the best results. Those results will help your child when they growth up and learn on their own.

Teaching your baby sign language is an easy, fun and exciting way to begin communicating with your newest little member of the family. Make the most of your time with your little one. Sharing, bonding and learning together as a family.

The Missing Ingredient: An All-Clad Cookware Set

When it comes to cookware that is made in America, All-Clad is a name that you can count on. This company has made its name with its high quality line of modern cookware that is the best in appearance as well as functionality. All-Clad Cookware Sets were first manufactured for the career chef but it is being becoming common for household purposes, too. Its quality and features are trustworthy. This line of products can handle a tremendous workload and each piece is durable. Even the smallest details of the pot or pan are produced with perfection, though you may find a few pieces that may have some small snags. The majority of the items are treated to one last hand-finished touch. These are the characteristics that have helped this cookware to get recognition for itself in the global market.

Quite a few of the luxury hotels in the world use All-Clad Cookware Sets to cook tasty recipes. The All-Clad products have found a good market for themselves in not only the professional food industry, but also in the kitchens of dedicated amateurs. Cooking ranges belonging to this company have been a trusted name with some of the domestic culinary experts for a long time. The recipes made in them are excellent on so many levels.

All-Clad Cookware Sets basically consists of a three-ply body, consisting of an aluminum core that is the reason for even and quick distribution of heat from the stovetop to each and every part of the cooking surface. This contribute to savings on the fuel and time resources that you use up when cooking. The stainless steel cooking surfaces are nonstick, corrosion-resistant, and are nearly effortless to clean and keep up. You can cook nutritious food with this cookware because the non-stick layer allows you to use less oil or butter for cooking. The magnetic outer surface enables one to use induction stoves instead of the conventional ones.

The handles of this cookware are tightly riveted to the construction of the cookware so that they will not snap off easily. They are long, grooved at the top, and rounded at the bottom to give you a nicer grip. They do not heat up along with the cookware when cooking. They are made to offer you exceptional comfort.

All-Clad Stainless Steel Cookware, though considered the best by many reviewers, is not hundred percent flawless. It has been shown that quite a few of the pieces are packaged with defects. This shows the need for stricter quality control initiatives from the company. Secondly, the cookware is pretty chunky. Thirdly, the All-Clad kitchenware is fairly pricy. The bulkiness and higher cost make it more likely to be bought for commercial cooking. The domestic clientele is likely to grow if the company produces cookware that is easy to lift and less expensive. The quality concerns need to be addressed, as well.

Scented Candles Are Inexspensive Pleasure

There are few gifts that are as universally suitable for just about any purpose than candles. The candles are with us for decades and centuries, but we could never enjoy in them as much as we can today. And there was not a time that such wonderful candles were as cheap as this. In fact, discount scented candles are probably one of the greatest bargains in gifts and home decoration.

What's actually making scented candles so special products? Maybe it's the unique combination of the inherent allure of a lit candle and the wonderful fragrances of sweet fruits or enticing blends of florals and spices. What's more romantic than a candlelit room that also tantalizes the sense of smell? Are you aware of the fact that you can use candles to create special atmosphere and positive vibes?

Just try to imagine what it looks like to walk into a room that has the scet of an orange grove. Or it can have a smell of a grape, strawberry or even of pineapple. And then seeing in those colors associated with those fruits being reflected in nicely placed candles. Just try to imagine rounded two-toned pillars that are colored in shades of blue berries, lemon or peach.

If you're not familiar with the wonderful world of decorative candles, here's a brief intro: Most candles come as pillars, votives or container candles. Big candles that have 3 inches in diameter are called columns, also known as pillars. Some of them are square, some are around, and others are oval. There are candles that need more than one wick because they are quite large.

Votives are small cylindrical candles usually no larger than an inch and a half in diameter and perhaps a couple of inches tall. Usually, they are found in intricate and simple holders. The well-known container candles really use glass and wax, ceramic and metal containers that will delight you with their interesting shapes.

The conclusion is, scented candles are a great thing, that we use for relaxation and joy. And unlike other luxuries in life discount scented candles cost very little and are affordable to all.

Help Your Family Sleep Better

Life today brings all kinds of stress for you and your family. Every member of the family requires proper rest to handle life's demands. But in each family there is probably one or more members who have trouble sleeping.

In this article, we will review a range of tips on helping a person fall asleep. How long does it take for someone to fall asleep? It depends on a number of factors, including how tired the person is, what the person ate before they went to bed, and numerous other factors. If you have sleep problems, it might take what seems like hours to fall asleep.

Insomnia means you find it extremely hard to go to sleep. It also can mean that staying asleep is a battle. Most people who battlle insomnia say that they remember turning and tossing all night long or remember being awake at night. Nights when I have an insomnia attack I just can’t seem to turn my mind off, and often I can’t even close my eyes. Normally it takes me about a half hour to fall asleep; but my son is asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow.

The TV helps me fall asleep -- I have it on a timer and it shuts off after a half hour.I also need total darkness, and my bedroom needs to be ice cold – even in the middle of summer. Admittedly, this does not help save energy!

There are natural or behavioral treatments for insomnia. One relaxation technique is employed by tensing different muscle groups and then relaxing them. Another method is repeating a set of visualizations to produce a state of relaxation. My favorite visualization? Lying in the sun on a beach in the Bahamas.

Another helpful method is to associate the bedroom with sleeping and only sleeping, by limiting the time spent in the bedroom for non-sleep activities. So take your office, computer, and television out of the bedroom. Also reduce the use of stimulants (such as caffeine) and avoid big meals just before bedtime; this can help reduce insomnia. One might also try soaking in a hot bath to relax, or listening to soft music before going to bed. More info at bestinsomnia.com.

Melatonin is an aid for helping people fall asleep. It is especially helpful for people who suffer from insomnia caused by jet lag or shift work. Melatonin occurs naturally in the body; this happens when serotonin is exposed to a reduced quantity of light. Lots of insomnia tips can be found at myinsomniatips.com

Other common over-the-counter (OTC) sleep aids such as Sominex or Nytol can also be tried by adults; nevertheless, a person should discuss with their doctor before taking any of these sleep aids especially if you suffer from Parkinson’s disease, or are being treated for depression or other mental health problems. But it is also buying into the mindset of turning to a pill to solve a problem, which can then lead to problems in other areas of a person’s life.

It is advised that if you have trouble falling asleep and have tried all the natural tips in this article, then perhaps you need to consult a sleep management specialist. So many people have sleep issues, there is now a sub-specialty in medicine for such problems. Inomnia can be a symptom of other medical problems, so it is best to get a consultation with your doctor and discuss your sleeping problems with him.

Even with so many sleep tips, falling to sleep is very individual -- you must find the way that is best for you and stay asleep. Obviously, the ideas shared here must be evaluated and adapted relative to health, age, and other factors; but do whatever is necessary to help your family rest well.

Transformers Figures: Wildly Hot After All These Years

Transformers figures are incredibly collectible toys due to their excellent back stories, intricate past, and sheer coolness factor. While recent entrants in their toy line are impressive with their intricate transformations and engineering excellence, the clunkier and larger toys of the 80's are very desirable, partially thanks to their varied history.

In the late 70's, Takara, a Japanese toy company produced the popular Microman and Diaclone toy lines, which featured toys that transformed into electronics devices, robots, and vehicles. Hasbro was already licensing Takara's technology for the G.I. Joe toy line and continued the partnership to develop the Transformers figures toy line, while simultaneously buying the Diaclone toy line outright.

A backstory was created for the toy line and a plethora new figures were added, while many of the original Diaclone figures were retooled to blend into this new backstory. That's the easy piece of their history. Then things got confusing.

Soon afterwards, the Marvel comic was released in the United States. It would later be released in Japan and the UK, inspiring new figure variations and dual names for figures in the process. In 1984 the TV series was developed, but the writers veered from the original path that was set.

In 1986, the Transformers animated movie was produced, two more seasons of the cartoon show were launched, and the UK and Japanese story lines were still being produced. In the early 90's, the second generation series was produced (G2), followed by Beast Wars, followed by a new series of comics and toys produced by Dreamwave in the early 2000's. This all led to wild discrepancies in backgrounds, plots, characters, and many other aspects associated with the toy line and the backstory.

At the same time, Hasbro was creating more and more Transformers figures and sets, including Headmasters, Dinobots, Powermasters, Constructicons, Trainbots, Throttlebots, Triggerbots, Sparkobots, Protectobots, and many more. Many of these lines were truly engineering marvels. Wait a minute, you thought there was just one toy line?!

Adding to this confusion are the current Transformers launches, inspired by the popular 2007 movie. Some of these new toys even feature cross-over promotions with the popular Star Wars franchise. Although these transforming characters don't carry the same geek appeal as Star Wars vintage toys or the original Transformers figures, they are very popular with younger fans of both the Transformers and Star Wars series.

The end result is that Transformer action figures are more than just a fun memory for many collectors; they are also a perfect example of creativity, cooperation, and design ingenuity rarely seen in the current mass market toy releases. Thanks to their past, vintage Transformers figures should remain popular and valuable for many years to come.

Star Wars Vintage Action Figures: A Standout Collectible Franchise

There are many opinions on the "coolest" collectible toy markets, but most objective collectors agree on vintage Pez, vintage Hot Wheels, vintage Transformers, and vintage Star Wars. Out of all of these, Star Wars vintage toys are considered among the most valuable individually, though with the huge amount of Pez prototypes and variations on the secondary market, Pez are probably more valuable in sum.

In the late 70's, Kenner produced an original line of 12 Star Wars action figures, and this entire line is extremely desirable to Star Wars enthusiasts, each valued at over two thousand dollars if still in good condition and in their original packaging. The most valuable vintage toy is argued to be Vlix, a short-lived character who was featured in a 80's Brazilian cartoon. Vlix runs well over six thousand dollars if in great condition.

Adding to the valuation of these figures is the license exclusivity. For example, Kenner Canada, located in Ontario, held the license for Star Wars figures in Canada for a decade beginning in the late seventies, but only distributed about ten percent of the figures at that time. That, in addition to the fact that the Canadian releases were packaged with bilingual packaging, adds a unique twist to those interested in the collectible value of these figures.

Another unique collectible item available, but very hard to uncover, are toy prototypes. Prototypes and test products are relatively common in other markets, e.g. the collectible Pez market, but much rarer in the Star Wars market.

While many current Star Wars fans are young, and because there has been a rush of new licenses released, these newer figures will probably never attain the valuations that current vintage toys attained. For example, a recent toy release features Star Wars toys that morph from characters like Darth Vader into objects like the Death Star. These Transformers figures mashups are selling right now, but supply is also high, and the law of supply and demand tells us that this will suppress valuations.

There are also other overseas releases, with the Japanese Star Wars toys being very unique, and therefore, highly desirable and highly collectible. European toys are also popular and regularly confused with Canadian releases, due to their bilingual packaging. The easiest way to tell these releases apart is by viewing the address on the package, which will clearly indicate the country of origin.

With Star Wars toys, you have a killer movie franchise, a rabid fan base, opportunities to locate unique figures, and much heavier demand than supply. These factors combine to lead many professional collectors to believe that Star Wars vintage action figures will hold their value for the long haul.

So dig in your attic, uncover that old Speeder Bike or TIE Fighter, and see if you have a goldmine on your hands!

Organized Sport Meetings

According to statistics from the Orthopedics Society of America, approximately 20 to 30 million young people are active in some sort of organized sport. About half of boys and a quarter of girls between 8 and 16 compete in an organized sport at least once during the year. Three-quarters of junior high schools and middle schools have competitive sports programs and about 7 million athletes compete at the high school level.

Organized sports add an already over-burdened parent with the added duties of driving kids to a from their events. Team sports require parent meetings as well, and this too is quite  difficult for parents to include in their busy lives. Trying to get parent's together to hold these meetings is sometimes akin to herding cats. Technology offers many solutions to these kinds of time issues. Teams can now easily host online meetings. Getting a parent meeting up and running can be done in a matter of minutes. With a telephone and an Internet connection, coaches can hold meetings directly from their desktop. There are no up-front costs to worry about. The simplicity of web meetings enables the coach and parents to focus on the purpose and content of the meeting without the "how-to worry" - yes it's that simple.

The convenience of holding parent meetings online can free up coaches and crew to tackle project deadlines and keep resources on track and up-to-date. With this service teams can to use it for other lateral meetings that may need to be held. As well, normally parents and coaches choose to meet weekly, every other week or monthly, or at a time that is convenient and getting both parents to attend is often a challenge. However, with an on-line meeting event, all parents can easily participate from the comfort of their home. Also, meetings can be recorded so parents who were unable to view the live on-line meeting can view the meeting at a time convenient to them. Many traditional meetings occur in schools, churches, civic centers, or recreation centers with uncontrollable factors, such as weather, traffic and illness predetermining attendance. On-line meetings are certainly a practical solution for combating these road blocks.

On-line meeting programs are available via software download, or the service can be hosted by the provider. Companies offering this service normally offer a free trial period.

Knife Sharpeners For Hunting Knives

Cutting with a hunting knife that is becoming dull is 10 times more difficult, which is a fact every experienced hunter knows. What is important here is that you have the ability to feel how your knife is changing the cutting pattern because the blade became dull. If you posses this ability, it will be easy for you to figure out when your knife needs to be sharpened.

You can do exactly that, if you have the right tools, but you will need a lot more for this, not only stroll to the nearest store and buying some sharpening tool. To find the right material and product to buy for your hunting knife, you are gonna need some ingenuity. Diamond, ceramic sharpener and arkansas stone are three main types of hunting knife sharpeners. Let’s take a look to see how each of these types can aid you in sharpening your hunting knife.

Arkansas Stone sharpeners are the most common type used among hunters and wilderness types today. Knife sharpeners like these are easy to find, and what is best, they bring good results for centuries. This type of stone has different roughness, which are described by the different grades.

Using one grade over another will result in a differing sharpness of your blade. While many new-timers are looking to the newer sharpeners, many old school outdoors men consider Arkansas Stone sharpeners the best for their hunting knife.

If you’re looking for something lightweight and durable, you’ll want a ceramic sharpener. They are built out of a big block of wood with two ceramic rods that are set at the sides. Be aware that these knife sharpeners are very durable, but this is because they are used to finish off a blade of the hunting knife, instead of sharpening a blade that is very dull.

When you are out in the wilderness, your hunting knife will get dull and will definitely need a sharpening here and there, which is cool because there are many hunting sharpeners that are great for carrying around.

Know About Panic Attacks

A common part of life that affects many people is panic attacks. From some people in today’s stressful and busy world an anxiety panic attack symptom is a normal part of life unfortunately. Panic attacks and depression can occur simultaneously and even go hand-in-hand. This makes it really difficult for the individual to lead the life normally and undertake tasks required for daily routine.

This is a serious condition wherein the patient has to undergo a lot of trauma and emotional problems. In fact, the person suffering from this disease is constantly under a threat of the panic situation attacking him at any point of his life.

One out of every three Americans suffers from some sort of panic or anxiety disorders according to many sources. As the demands of life in the global economy become strenuous and harmful this number in steadily rising.

The symptoms that a person experiences during a panic attack are very specific and powerful. People who have suffered through at least one will recognize the symptoms the very moment that they start to occur - and the fear of "the next panic attack" can sometimes aggravate the effort to completely cure those attacks.

The following symptoms are very severe:

• Racing heartbeat
• Very difficult to breathe - a feeling of suffocating
• Overwhelming terror and feeling like you're about to die.
• Nervous shaking
• Dizziness and lightheaded - sometimes with nausea
• Sweating, hot flashes, and chills
• Chest pain and sometimes choking

Most people live with this condition without even knowing about what is happening to them while some are too embarrassed to talk about it or even admit it. People who are serious about dealing with this condition must work towards it seriously. There is a lot to do on the part of the patient in this regard.

If one has the will power and the strength to overcome the anxiety and panic attacks, it is easy to cope up with this condition. The good news is that yes, one can combat this disease.

Board games- The perfect Christmas gift

Technology may change the way we live, read, listen to music, talk and shop, but some things were such a good idea that their basic premise never changes. Board games are the perfect gift for Christmas, as they have longevity that many other gifts don’t really possess. You can play board games again and again, invite friends and family to take part, and they can become a very social pastime indeed.

The classics are here again this year, with new editions of Monopoly, Scrabble, Cluedo, Twister and more being released onto the market. Those older favourites have also been joined by some great new titles such as the fascinating Articulate, Blokus, and Cranium. Each of them will provide hours of entertainment, and even education, as you pit your wits and reflexes against your opponents.

Using games as a focal point at social events is a great way to get people into the swing of things, and ca be a great icebreaker for those winter nights with family and other loved ones.

There’s something for everyone in the realm of board games for Christmas 2008, with games based around images, numbers, words, and general knowledge on the market for every taste and pocket. The big one this year is undoubtedly the new version of Monopoly- namely Monopoly World Edition: Here and Now. The makers of Monopoly, Hasbro, held a global vote so that people could cast their ballots for the cities they wanted to see in the new version of the game. Nearly six million votes were cast and Montreal won the title of the game’s most expensive property, which was originally held by Boardwalk in the traditional Monopoly game. Riga, in Latvia, was second and becomes the next most expensive property, known in previous Monopoly games as Park Place.

That’s just one example of the great games that can be found for Christmas 2008 gifts. There is a huge range out there, and certainly you will be able to find the right gift at the right price. We all know how hard it can be to decide on w3hat to get for family and friends at this time of year, so do consider board games- the gift that really does keep on giving. Have fun with your games, and have a very merry Christmas.

4 Benefits of Exercise for your Child

You know that exercise is good for you, but what about your child? If she isn’t getting enough exercise, you must take steps to change that right away. Exercise is essential to your child’s health. Here are 4 more reasons why your child benefits from a regular exercise routine:

1. Exercise reduces the risk of obesity. If your child participates in a regular exercise program, her chances of becoming obese are dramatically reduced. An active child equals a healthier child.

2. Exercise decreases the risk of diseases. Diabetes and high blood pressure are combated by exercise. If you have a family history of such diseases, you should help your child to develop good exercise habits.

3. Exercise strengthens your child’s body. As your child exercises on a frequent basis, his muscles and bones will become stronger.

4. Exercise induces feelings of well-being. This is especially important to a child who is struggling with peer pressure or body image. Encourage an exercise routine. Exercising helps release frustrations and can help boost your child’s self-confidence.

Need some exercise ideas to encourage your child? Why not incorporate an exercise routine into your schedule with your children? Try these simple ideas:

WALKING – Walking is the easiest, and one of the best forms of exercise for anyone. Walking is a good way to encourage a conversation as well.

SPORTS – If your child is interested in sports, you have an easy job. Just offer to take them out every weekend and play. Whether basketball or tennis, or any of a dozen other one-on-one type sports. Even just catch.

SWIMMING – Just about every kid loves to swim. If you don’t have one of your own, invest in a monthly membership to a local gym.

Nesco Cookers - Healthy And Juicy Meals

I don't want to be so blunt and say that Nesco cookers are the best there is. I don't want to be so straightforward and hyped. I think the best way to figure out how much Nesco is worth is by figuring out why are they so well known brand. They have a good reputation among people who had experience with them. If you ever browsed for cookware, you probably saw one of them on the shelf. Their reputation among buyers is well known so this is absolutely not unusual.

Some of you may ask why they have such a good image, and the answer to that one is quite simple. Behind each ot their products are years of experience and numerous tests. And this is the reason Nesco can deliver such a quality and exactly because of that consumers are happy with their products.

Nesco doesn't only make good pressure cookers, they are well known for manufacturing plenty of other types of cookware. They do not have the courage to throw out just any product on the market, they are all well tested and will serve you for years. There are some companies around who get into digital cookers market, create a product and quickly disappear. The reason they left the market is because they didn't offer any real value to the buyer. When people try the product, truth is revealed. Nesco pressure cookers are with us for decades and th reason for that is because they have something to offer to their buyers.

Original idea to bring electricity to cookware cam from Nesco. This technology was first applied on a food dehydrator and after that, nothing remained the same. After this, plenty of other electric cookware emerged and one of them was Nesco digital slow cooker. We use them as a multi purpose cookware that is great for all kinds of meals. If some rice is what you want to prepare, you can use a pressure cooker. Prepare a tasty chicken, make a stew or roast some pork, you can do it all with a Nesco cooker.

Useful Information On Dog Training

Dogs are man’s best friends. When you ultimately made that big decision to own a dog, you expected it to provide you companionship, be a pleasure to show off to your friends and just plainly be a joy to own. So off you go to the pet shop, choose a dog that catches your attention and bring him (or her) home. But then, the horror begins. The dog you brought home seems to be anything but the adorable creature you expected it to be. His (or her) behavior is terribly unpredictable and can even be downright embarrassing at times. The dog you brought home to provide you companionship just sits around at the corner of your home, seemingly bored at the things happening around him (or her). So you read all the books and even went to a dog training class to teach your dog a thing or two about obedience, but you still get no good results. This may lead you to think there is something inherently wrong with your dog. Is he (or she) just plain lazy, hardheaded or a little bit slow in the head?

Not all dogs are created equal - some are born to lead while some gladly follows the commands of the pack leader. Consequently, not all dogs respond to training in the same manner - some gladly do their tasks and exercises without giving you, the owner, a hard time while others will test your temperament to its limits. Hard-to-train dogs are by no means the lesser beings as compared to their more subservient counterparts. On the contrary, these dogs often possess several positive traits that interfere with your dog training sessions. Two of the qualities that get in the way of dog training the most are the animal's independence and dominance. Let's see how these qualities might jeopardize your dog training efforts.Train your dog with best effort.

If you want hundred per cent attention from your dog, you must be prepared to give this to him during training. He is entitled to your full attention - any failure on your part will result in failure on his. Therefore, sessions should be short, but intensive whilst they last.

Voice Control - Probably the most important thing for a handler to learn is how to use his or her voice to obtain the right response from the dog during training. Any sharpness used to get his attention must be short and snappy with an immediate softening of tone afterwards and with the recall an excited tone to encourage the dog to come in. A sharp tone of voice should only be used to get the dog's attention and at no other time. If this sharpness of tone is not successful on this first call then your training is not soundly based. Continual shouting is of little value in successful dog training.

-Body and Hand control - It can be of great value to use body and hand movements as signals, but you must be conscious of their useful application. The proper and natural use of signals will help your dog, so long as you know you are using them. You can later minimise these signals or cut them out when no longer needed. Hand and arm signals in particular can be used to reinforce acts of encouragement.

-Use of Food as Reward - Titbits of food should never be used in place of other forms of reward or encouragement, but rather to back up or reinforce encouragement and praise. The correct use of food can have a dramatic effect on the progress of training. To obtain the best results in training, a dog should never be fed before a training session - it is much easier to train a hungry dog. A training session just before feeding time where titbits are used to reinforce praise and encouragement can prove to be very effective. It should be noted that training without titbits can restrict the effectiveness of repeating that part of an exercise to about three to five tries before moving to another part. After this, a dog normally loses his edge and the handler wonders why performance deteriorates. However, the use of titbits can prolong a training session for twenty to thirty repeats with a hungry dog. The idea is to get the right balance and really understand your dog's limitations.

Dogs can be and are trained very effectively without ever using a titbit, but, as an aid, the use of food can speed up and help consolidate on the elements being trained. Also, the use of titbits can help to keep the handler in a better frame of mind. What handler can be coarse and overbearing whilst giving his dog something to eat? It just would not make sense.

Experts say that dog behaviors can be controlled through proper training. Dog behaviors are actually responses that are mostly triggered by environmental and social factors. Your best bet would be to maximize training of your dog when it decides to bark. Provide Adequate Food and Water - Provide food suited to your dog's age size and condition. Walk Your Dog - Your dog will let you know when it needs to be walked.

How Can Steam Juicers Benefit YOU

The primary benefit juicers were giving to us when they first showed up was their speed. You must admit that's a great benefit just because we could all have a few minutes to relax during the day. And one thing we weren't aware of is that the minerals from fruits and vegetables were killed by the high speed rotating blades. When electric juicer is working, it creates heat that burns the minerals and lessens the quality of the juice. Is this possible to fix?

You will see that there are better solutions to the electric Norwalk juicers. This type of juice extractor will create delicious and fresh juice from the vegetables and fruit you prepare. Steam juicers are the appliances that can provide this.

What's a steam juicer actually and how can you benefit from it? You will be able to extract pure juice out of berries and grapes without cutting them - you will only need the power of steam. The basic principle is quite easy to understand. Two containers can be found in every steam juice extractor. There is one at the bottom and it contains water that we need to boil. The other one is at the top and serves as a container for fruit and vegetables you will put inside the juicer.

Juice will be released from the content and separated into the pan when water starts to boil. Then, the juice is sipped through small tube and it is now ready to be served as a fresh drink. And this system is not different than the one we use when we are making jellies. It will be easy for you to use steam juicer because you will figure it all out quite fast.

And this actually means that the fruits and vegetables you want to use will not be cut at all, they wil be squeezed and drained with steam power. There will no longer be hassle with stemming, pitting and peeling of fruits and vegetables we want to make juice from. It is quite interesting to prepare juicer with such a little effort and so little hassle. No longer you have to use your old electric Magic Bullet juice extractor. You would be in a win-win situation if you get yourself one of these.

Tips for Making Your Fresh Cut Flowers Last Longer

Whether you've cut fresh blooms from your backyard or you have received a floral delivery, you will want to do everything that you can to keep your flowers looking beautiful.

Use the following tips to keep your cut flowers looking fresh and full as long as possible.

Start with the freshest flowers possible
If you're buying fresh flowers to brighten your home each week, make sure you're starting with a fresh bouquet. Buy your flowers at a farmer's market or directly from a florist to ensure the best quality. You can make fresh flowers last longer than ones that have been sitting in cold storage for several days. If you're cutting them yourself, make sure to prepare your vase and water before you cut so that you can instantly transport the flowers into their container.

Get the right container
Your vase or container should be tall enough to cover at least three to four inches of the flower stems, with a few extra inches for additional support. You can always trim your stems to fit the size of your vase. To get ideas for creative containers and floral arrangements, check out online floral specialists. You can find everything from gift bouquets to Martha Stewart floral arrangements. Surf the web for a bit to get ideas that will make your flowers look their best.

The size of your container doesn't matter as much as the cleanliness of your container. Make sure your vase or other container has been cleaned thoroughly, because left over bacteria can age your flowers prematurely. Rinse out all of the soapy residue so it won't damage your flowers.

Trim the ends of your stems
Fill your kitchen sink with cool water. Hold the stems underneath the level of the water and then trim them with sharp scissors. Make a diagonal cut so that all of the ends of the stems are pointed. This will increase the surface area of the flower stem that is exposed to the water, allowing the flowers to take in more water.

Prepare your vase
Fill your vase with enough warm water so that it will cover at least three to four inches of the stems. You can use specially made plant food that will increase the life of your flowers, or you can use aspirin. To use the aspirin method, crush two uncoated aspirin and add them to water. Stir in your plant food and aspirin completely into the water before adding your flowers.

Remove leaves
Submerged leaves are major contributors to the development of bacteria within a vase, which can shorten the shelf life of your flowers. Make sure you remove any leaves that will be below the level of the water to reduce bacteria. If any leaves fall into the water, remove them immediately.

Keep your vase clean
You should remove your flowers and add fresh water (with plant food or aspirin) as much as once a day. It's important to at least switch the water out every three days to keep your flowers fresh. If a layer of scum begins to develop on the vase at the water level, remove the flowers and clean out the vase with a mild soap. Make sure to rinse thoroughly before adding the flowers back in.
